Mahaska Masters next meeting March 10 at First Christian Church

The regular meeting of the Mahaska Masters 4-H club was held at the First Christian Church on Feb. 11.

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by President Debbie McCrea. Recreation was led by Kaden VanMaanen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Logan Gross. The Roll Call, “What do you like to do in your free time?” was answered by 31 members, six leaders and no visitors. The minutes from the previous meeting were read by Megan Adams and approved. Nicole McCrea read the club’s current balance. There were no bills presented.

Jenna Stewart, Nicole McCrea, Megan Adams, Debbie McCrea, Diane Stewart, Karen Adams and Robyn McCrea talked about the State Leaders’ Retreat and told their favorite part. It was also announced that Ashley Kinkade was elected president and Debbie McCrea vice-president for the Southeast Area Council. Cody Adams reported on the Intermediate Dodge Ball Tournament on April 20 sponsored by the council. Rachel Adams told about the Horse Clinic. Debbie McCrea reminded everyone the birdhouse workshop has been moved to Feb. 24 at the McCrea’s and to bring a hammer with your name on it. It was announced the Youth Dance for 4th-6th graders will be March 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at MCEO. Debbie McCrea announced the advanced feeder weigh-in is March 15 from 9-10 a.m. She also announced a horse clinic is scheduled for March 15 at 10 a.m. in the MCEO 4-H room. It was announced the Intermediate Trip to Minneapolis applications are due March 17. Debbie McCrea asked if we wanted to make a team for the Intermediate Dodge Ball Tournament. Penny Adams passed around the sign-up sheet for the dodge ball tournament. Members were encouraged to read the county newsletter.

Diane Stewart announced there are a few 4-H T-shirts left and also announced the state logo design contest for a new 4-H logo design. Karen Adams encouraged everyone to read the club program. The meeting was moved to adjourn by Dana VanRenterghem and seconded by Kaden VanMaanen. The 4-H pledge was led by Cheyenne Glandon.

Presentations for this meeting were Kaden VanMaanen on “Golf,” Gerrit VanMaanen, on “Yo-Yo’s,” Skylar DeJong, on “How to make your own lead rope,” and Katlyn Moses, on “Valentines Day Cards.” Our hosts were Katlyn Moses and Kaden and Gerrit VanMaanen. Our next meeting will be March 10 at the First Christian Church.
