Published August 27, 2008 02:20 pm - Mahaska County 4-H’ers exhibit livestock during the 2008 Iowa State Fair The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — Mahaska County 4-H youth showed livestock during the first and second week of the Iowa State Fair. “Youth gain so many positive skills by exhibiting livestock,” Mike Anderson, 4-H agriculture superintendent said. “The dedication, responsibility, decision-making and leadership they develop can prepare them for careers that use these skills.” Mahaska County exhibitors placed as follows: Market Beef - Danielle De Lange, Albia, Purple; Nolan Ferguson, New Sharon, Purple, Champion Charolais and 5th Honorable Mention Market Steer; Brooke Veenstra, Purple; Courtney Veldhuizen, Purple. Breeding Beef - Emily Orman, Ottumwa, Blue; Megan Orman, Ottuwma, Blue; Tayler Sammons, Eddyville, Red. Dairy Goats - Libby Boer, Oskaloosa, Purple; Sharon Boer, Oskaloosa, Purple-4, Blue-2, Jr. Rec. Grade Champion. Meat Goats - Cody Foster, New Sharon, Purple-2, Blue-1, Champion Intermediate Showperson; Tyler Foster, Purple-1, Blue-1; Kayla Middlesworth, Purple-3, 3rd Place Overall & Grand Champion Meat Goat.
