Harrison Zippers elect officers

PAIGE SHAFER, Reporter
The Oskaloosa Herald

The monthly meeting of the Harrison Zippers 4-H Club was held Sept. 14 at the Eddyville Elementary Cafeteria in Eddyville at 5 p.m.

Ana Gutch called the meeting to order. Bailey Edmonds led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Nine members, 22 visitors, and three leaders were present. Sheri Gutch read the secretary’s report. There were no additions or corrections. Karlie Taylor read the treasurer’s report and no new bills were submitted.

The reports included decorating at the bank for National 4-H week. Arielle Brown will be at the bank on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m. for the display. Any items can be brought to the bank or given to Arielle earlier.

The old business included plans for Crop Walk on Oct. 12 to be held from 12 to 3 p.m. The Pioneer farm dipping candles will be on Sept. 20 with volunteers of Sheri Gutch, Bailey Edmonds, Hilary Bruner and Arielle Brown. Discussion was held for the hot dog roast and hayrack ride to be held on Oct. 25 at the Doyle farm. Paige Shafer will be bringing plates and napkins. The leaders will provide the drinks. All members are asked to bring finger foods.

For new business, the enrollment forms were handed out and discussions were made to have the club pay for $10 of each member’s enrollment fee. Arielle Brown moved and Bailey Edmond seconded the motion. The motion passed to pay for $10 of each of the member’s enrollment fee. Reminder that Nov. 8 is the County Awards banquet to be held at Pioneer Farm.

Ashley Doyle gave the leaders report and reminded members to write thank you notes for the awards they received at the county fair this summer. Concession stand dates for fundraising were also announced: Dec. 2, Jan. 12 and Feb. 3 and the dates we will be at the concessions stands.

The September newsletter was discussed.

Premium money was handed out for the fair premiums.

The election of officers for the 2008-2009 4-H year were elected with installation of officers being held. The following officers were elected and installed as part of the family night:

President: Arielle Brown

Vice president: Taryn Shaw

Secretary: Ana Gutch and Sheri Gutch

Treasurer: Bailey Edmonds

Reporter: Paige Shafer
