On Saturday, Sept. 13, the Mahaska County Soccer Club hosted their home opener against Fairfield at the Lacey Soccer Complex.

Oskaloosa’s U10 girls, coached by Heather Gross, won against Fairfield A 8-1 with all eight goals coming in the second half. Leah VanMaanen scored all eight goals off assists from Kinsey Cook, Gillian Gross and Sienna DeJong. Keepers Sienna DeJong and Summer Smith each had two saves. Additional attempts on goal were Summer Smith with three, Gillian Gross with seven, Kinsey Cook with four and Brittany DeMoney with four.

U10 girls, coached by Reg Randau, came out on top of Fairfield with a final score of 7–5. Kamryn Beers, Claire Fiechtner and Sydney McGlothlen each had two goals and Lexi Randau had one. Brynn Shaull had two assists while Katrina Elliot and Lexi Randau each had one. Keeper Mckenna Reikoff had fifth saves on the day.

Oskaloosa’s U12 boys, coached on this date by Steve Heaton, won against Fairfield 3–2. Lake Heaton had two goals with an assist from Logan Gross, and Ben Boston scored on an assist by Lake Heaton.

The U10 boys, coached by Mike Mier, beat Fairfield with a final score of 18–1. Brady Davis notched six goals and one assist, Jordan Mier had three goals and five assists, Jakob Anderson scored three goals, Conner Swim had three goals and an assist, John Hammes had two goals and two assists and Mason VanEngelhoven had one goal. The keepers recorded five saves on the day.

Oskaloosa’s other U10 boys team, coached by Brian Kime, also won by a score of 18–1. Jacob Kime had five goals, KJ McCrea hadd four goals and three assists, Jacob Huedepohl had four goals and one assist, Paul Ginaven scored twice with one assist, and Isaac Park had two goals and two assists. Noah Baarda rounded out the scoring with one goal. The team had 31 overall shots on goal and the keepers notched six saves on the day.

The U14 co-ed team coached by Wilhelm Hartl beat Fairfield with a 3-2 victory. Goals were made by Jakob Hartl and Christian Bambrook with saves by keepers Josh McDanel in the first half and Matt Strong in the second half. The defensive team did a great job of preventing Fairfield from making a tie goal in the second half.

The U16 co-ed team, coached by Chris Cook, beat Fairfield with a final score of 5-2. Dylan DeJong, Maxwell Holle, and Tristan Cook each had one goal, and Jakob Hartl scored two goals. Overall the team had 21 shots on goal and keeper Brendan Cottington had four saves. Strong defense from Drayton Strait, Skylynn Jellis, Katelyn Hasselman, McKenzie Seaton and Tara Durian was key in the win.

The U19 co-ed team, coached by Monthy Rassasombath, played Fairfield in a night game under the newly-installed lights at the Lacey Complex. Unfortunately the outcome was a 4-2 loss. Both of Oskaloosa’s goals were scored by John Anderson.

On Sunday, Sept. 14, the U8 co-ed team, coached by Bryan Kime, and Wilhelm Hartl hosted two games against Pella and Ottumwa. Oskaloosa came back powerfully in the second half and just missed catching Pella, losing 11-9. Joshua Hartl contributed seven goals and Nathan DeBruin and Sarah Semini each scored one.

Oskaloosa then played Ottumwa with all players contributing to the 25-1 victory. Liam Skutca had seven goals, Joshua Hartl four, Kaden Gerard four and Aaron Blom, Nathan DeBruin and Sarah Semini each contributed three goals. 

Next weekend, MCSC teams will travel to Ames to compete in Kohl’s American Cup.
