MCSC closes out home season last weekend



OSKALOOSA

On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Mahaska County Soccer Club played their last home games of the fall season against Washington at the Lacey Recreation Complex.

The U10 boys, coached by Mike Mier, beat Washington by a final score of 11–1.

Goalkeeper Dalton Harvey had three saves and keeper Jakob Anderson had one save on the day. Brady Davis scored six goals, Jakob Anderson scored three, Dalton Harvey scored once, and Conner Swim had one goal and two assists. Jordan Mier and John Hammes contributed with some very close shots on goal and Mason VanEngelenhoven and Carter Huyser played great defense.

MCSC’s other U10 boys team, coached by Bryan Kime and Zack Cox, beat Washington by a score of 5–3. KJ McCrea and Jacob Huedepohl each had two goals, Jacob Kime had one goal, and Isaac Parks had two shots on goal. Alex Fuller, Paul Ginaven and Aaron Blom played tough defense and keeper Noah Baarda had seven saves on the day.

Reg Randau’s U10 girls, coached for the day by Rod McGlothlen, beat Washington’s U10 co-ed team 9–4. Keeper McKenna Rieckhoff had 4 saves and keeper Sydney McGlothlen had six saves. Offensively, Sydney McGlothlen had four goals, Lexi Randau had three goals, Claire Fiechtner had one goal, Aubrey Miller had one goal and one assist, Kamryn Beers and Brynn Shaull each had one shot.

The U10 girls team coached by Heather Gross tied the Washington coed team 5–5. Leah VanMaanen scored two goals and Kaity Richmond, Sienna De Jong and Sarah Semini each had one goal. Goalie Gillian Gross had five saves for the day.

MCSC’s U12 boys teams, coached by Casey Berg, Jameson Kautzman and Steve Heaton, squared off against each other to a Kautzman/Heaton 7–2 win. Playing on Berg’s team, Ethan Farner and Bradly Ware each scored one goal. Brady DeJong had one assist and two saves while playing goalkeeper and keeper Colton Berg had two saves.

On the Kautzman/Heaton side of the ball, goalie Hunter Kelderman had six saves. On offense, Lake Heaton had two goals, Logan Lunsford had one goal and one assist, Zac Randau had two goals, Tiki Anderson and Garrett VanMannen had one goal apiece.

MCSC’s U14 team, coached by Steve De Jong, played Washington’s U14 team to an 8–2 win. Sarandyn Curtis had a great day placing three soccer balls in the opposing team’s net. Also scoring for the Oskaloosa U14 club were Graeme Kuba, Brett Ewing, Skylar DeJong, CC Stouwie and Troy Else. Graeme Kuba had two assists for goals. The defense of Colton Mitterer, Spencer De Jong, Callie Arnold, Samantha Stearns, Kelsi Fuller, and Scottie Yang was instrumental in holding the Washington Club to two goals.

The U14 coed team coached by Wilhelm Hartl shutout Washington by a score of 8–0. Jakob Hartl scored 3 goals, Christian Bambrook and Ben Rurup each scored two, and Ciara Conley added one goal. Adam Hammes, Christian Bambrook and Jakob Hartl each contributed assists to goals. Josh McDanel had three saves and Ben Rurup had four saves in the goal. The following players showed exceptional sportsmanship: Adam Hammes, Narie San, Josh McDanel, and Christian Bambrook.

Chris Cook’s U16 coed team played the Washington U19 team and got beat by a score of 11–3. Cook’s team borrowed four of Osky’s U19 players, but was still outmatched by an older, stronger Washington team. Borrowed player Isaiah Thompson scored two goals, one off of a penalty shot, and borrowed player John Andersen scored one goal. Keeper Brendan Cottington had five saves and keeper Brianna Martin had four saves.

Osky’s U19 team, coached by Monthy Rassasombath, beat Washington by a final score of 6–2. Taylor Schelker and John Andersen each scored 2 goals while brothers Isaiah and Seth Thompson had one goal each. Also on the stat sheet for the day were Caleb Doll with one assist and goalkeeper Ethan Vande Wall with 5 saves on the day.

The U8 team, coached by Zac Cox, Bryan Kime, and Wilhelm Hartl, played a Colfax-Mingo team in Pella on Sunday, Oct. 19. Joshua Hartl had seven goals, Nathan DeBruin and Aaron Blom each contributed four goals, and Kadin Gerard added one goal with several assists by Liam Skutca for a final winning score of 16–1.

MCSC’s fall season for all teams, except the traveling U8 team, will wrap up with the 641 League end of season tournament in Fairfield on Saturday, Oct. 25. Registration for the spring soccer season will be Jan. 31 and Feb. 7, 2009, at Penn Central Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
