LEIGHTON — An Iowa wine captured a silver medal in the Sunshine State this month as Tassel Ridge Winery of Leighton, Iowa received a silver medal for its 2005 Twilight wine in the Florida State Fair 2008 International Wine and Grape Juice Competition in Tampa.

Tassel Ridge Winery Twilight was one of a record 1,628 wines entered in the competition. Entries from 36 states and 10 foreign countries were judged. This medal is the third major award received by Twilight, which previously received a bronze medal at the 2007 Mid-American Wine Competition and silver at the 2007 Indy International Wine Competition.

Twilight is a dry, full-bodied red wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Aged in American and Eastern European oak for 14 months, this wine displays jammy fruit and vanilla on the nose with plum and spice on the palate. It pairs well with a variety of full-bodied foods such as beef and spicy pasta dishes.
