Penn freshman ready to ‘get into it’

OSKALOOSA

They’re stepping into what many would consider the time of their lives.

At Wilcox Library on William Penn University’s campus, incoming freshmen with last names beginning with “A” through “L” registered Monday afternoon.

Faculty advisors were on hand to offer these budding young minds guidance on their journey for knowledge.

One such freshman is Jacob Adams, 18, of Memphis, Tenn.

Adams sat down with Brian Spielbauer in the library to discuss the best-fitting major for him. Spielbauer teaches part time in the health and life sciences department, as well as coaching Penn’s women’s basketball team.

By the end of their meeting, Adams knew where he wanted to go using his football scholarship.

“I just want to enjoy myself playing football and get my education,” said Adams.

Although he’s only a freshman, Adams said he’s got a good idea of where he wants to go in life after graduation. He’s interested in a sports administration degree and wants to use that to go into business for himself.

“I want to open one of those big sports places, like a Bally’s Total Fitness,” explained Adams.

Despite the fact that he’s going to college approximately 560 miles away from home, Adams said he doesn’t have any worries about adjusting to college life.

“I’m just ready to get into it,” said Adams confidently.

Classes at Penn begin Wednesday.
