Published January 23, 2009 04:55 pm - Daffodil Days campaign begins in Oskaloosa OSKALOOSA — The American Cancer Society’s Annual Daffodil Days campaign is a sure sign of impending spring.
Brighten up your office or home with daffodils, the symbol of hope for cancer survivors. When you buy one of the beautiful bouquets for yourself or for someone else, you’re helping to support cancer research, education, advocacy and service in Mahaska County. The Mahaska County unit of the American Cancer Society counts Daffodil Days and Relay for Life as its two major fund-raising events of the year. Orders are being taken for bouquets of 10 daffodils for $10. or a Gift of Hope for $25. Other newer items are a Bunch of Daffodils and a Vase for $12.; Dainty Daffodils which are replantable miniature daffodil bulbs in a container; Bear and a Bunch, Carrie N. Hope is a 2009 limited edition Boyds Bear designed exclusively for Daffodil Days with a beautiful bunch of daffodils for $25. You can also donate a Carrie N. Hope bear to a child that is being treated for a donation of $25. Another way to participate is by purchasing a Gift of Hope whereby a bouquet of daffodils in a vase is delivered anonymously to a cancer patient. Orders must be placed by Feb. 13. Daffodils can be picked up March 10 or 11 at Share Iowa, 1102 S. Seventh St. in Oskaloosa, which is donating space to distribute the flowers. Orders of 10 bundles or more can be delivered. The Gifts of Hope are being arranged by Grouse’s House of Flowers at no charge and will be delivered to area cancer patients. Mahaska County residents have until Friday, Feb. 13 to order daffodils from campaign chairwoman Bette Farner.
