Carroll announces run for Iowa House District 75

The Oskaloosa Herald

GRINNELL

Danny Carroll, a Grinnell Republican, filed papers Wednesday seeking his party’s nomination as a candidate for House District 75.

The district includes portions of Poweshiek and Mahaska counties, including the cities of Grinnell, Oskaloosa, Montezuma, Searsboro, Fremont, Cedar, Rose Hill and Barnes City.

In making the announcement, Carroll emphasized the need to focus on Iowa’s economy and the need to make Iowa an attractive state to business investment.

“Government has a significant impact on the business climate of a state,” said Carroll in a press release. “Through taxes and regulations we can either create an environment that appeals to investors or one that tells them to take their business and jobs elsewhere. I want Iowa to be a state that attracts and retains good paying jobs with opportunities for advancement.”

Families living in Iowa are at risk of becoming overtaxed with numerous fees, sales taxes, income taxes, gas taxes and the list goes on. Iowans pay enough taxes. The main driver of higher taxes is government spending. In a typical year tax revenue to the state will increase over the previous year by about 3 to 4 percent. State spending must be controlled within those limits if we are to keep taxes in check.

The foundation of Iowa’s prosperity has always been her families. During his 12 years of service in the Iowa Legislature from 1994 through 2006, Carroll sought ways to encourage and strengthen Iowa families.

“Children really do deserve the nurturing provided by a mother and a father,” said Carroll. “There are limits to what government can do in making that a reality for kids but at least it should not undermine the traditional family and should promote healthy marriages.”

State Rep. Betty De Boef has worked with Danny Carroll in the past and said, “As a twelve-year veteran of the Iowa Legislature, Danny is very knowledgeable, and is highly qualified to serve the citizens of District 75. Danny Carroll has a wealth of knowledge about health care, the growth of our economy and ways to strengthen families.”

Poweshiek County Attorney Mike Mahaffey observed, “Danny was always thoughtful, well-prepared and willing to tackle the tough issues. I would certainly like to see him back in Des Moines representing Poweshiek County once again.”

“I bring a simple message to this campaign,” said Carroll. “I believe in hard work, discipline, respect and personal responsibility. If the voters give me the honor of serving them in the Iowa Legislature, I will make every effort to demonstrate those values as their representative in the Iowa House.”

Danny Carroll and his wife Joy have three grown children and one granddaughter. Danny is the director of community relations for Iowa Telecom. The Carrolls live near Grinnell and are the owners of Carroll’s Pumpkin Farm.
