OSKALOOSA

The last day to file with the Mahaska County Auditor to run for a county position is approaching.

By 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, candidates must have filed with the county auditor. The Mahaska County Sheriff and the Auditor will be on the ballot in November. Also up is Henry W. Van Weelden’s seat on the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors.

So far, Richard Adams has filed as a Republican to run for Sheriff. Incumbents Kay Swanson has filed for auditor and Van Weelden have both filed as Republicans.

Current Mahaska County Sheriff, Paul DeGeest, Democrat, said he will file before the deadline.

The primary election will be on June 3, where candidates will be whittled down to not more than one representative from each party. The general election will be on Nov. 4.
