One person’s odds and ends can be someone else’s treasure and you can find some treasures at the Neighbor’s Market.

The Neighbor’s Market is located at the Heartland Center at 1701 Third Ave. E. on Oskaloosa’s east end, at the junction of Highways 92 and 23. The wide garage sale is open to the public and takes place every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Steve Walters is the owner of Slumber Land as well as the owner of the warehouse where the indoor garage sell is held. Walters joined with Angela Howard to coordinate the Neighbor’s Market. Booth rentals are open to the public. Booth rental is $45 per Saturday which covers the advertising cost. The basic items of a garage sale are sold, like jewelry, toys, household products, art, crafts and furniture.

Steve Howard has participated in the Neighbor’s Market for six weeks.

“There’s a lot of traffic, I’ve never had anything less than a 100 dollar day,” Howard said.

Howard sells his own items from his home such as clothes, toys, and furniture. He has accumulated over $1,000. Howard believes that the Market has a mixture of different choices, as far as items being offered.

“I’ve sold a lot more than I ever thought I would,” Howard said.

Bob Jones believes that the Neighbor’s Market is beneficial to the community because it allows people to get a good bargain on items. Jones is an employee at Slumber Land; he sells furniture for Slumber Land as well as items from his home.

“The market offers a lot of variety to the public,” he said.

Consumers walked from booth to booth examining the merchandise and sharing conversations with the booth holders. Some of the customers were even interested in starting their own booth as well. Food was sold with a menu of hamburgers, chips, pop and candy.

Sharon Braden sells out of her home, her booth included dish sets, clothes and ornaments. She has been involved with the Neighbor’s Market for five weeks now and thinks it is very useful.

“I sell my excess things and clean house after I store them at the garage,” said Braden.

Braden thinks that the Neighbor’s Market could be excellent for the community.

“It would let the community come to together and interact,” said Braden.
