OSKALOOSA

Wayne Ver Steeg was picking up the pieces Friday afternoon after a tornado damaged his barnyard the night before.

Ver Steeg’s farm is located in the 1800 block of 310th St., Oskaloosa.

“My wife looked out the window and saw some rotation in the clouds,” he said.

The National Weather Service reported that a tornado had been spotted five miles south-southwest of Beacon at the intersection of 310th Street and Independence Street at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

The winds took the roof off a barn and almost took the roof off another and damaged two hoop barns on the farm. The winds also took some shingles off Ver Steeg’s house.

“It made a mess out of the whole place,” he said.

Although property was damaged, no one was injured and his livestock did not suffer any serious injuries.

Ver Steeg said a tornado has never hit his farm before.

The storm that came through the area Thursday night did not do any damage to Ver Steeg’s neighbors, so they came over Friday to lend him a hand in repairing the damage.
