Work is planned to begin soon on the parallel taxiway at the Oskaloosa Municipal Airport.
Airport Commission Chairman Steve Brown said work could start this week. The commission is also planning to ask the city’s street division to fill the taxiway’s potholes. Brown said the runway does not need patchwork.
Repairs to the maintenance hangar roof are complete, Brown said. The final cost for the project was $27,618 and included removing the old furnace, patching the roof, installing foam and adding new gutters. At Monday’s Airport Commission meeting, the commission approved paying the final bill and submitting the bill to the Iowa Department of Transportation for 80 percent reimbursement. The Iowa Department of Transportation awarded the Oskaloosa Municipal Airport the grant to fund the project in 2007.
Also at the Monday meeting, the commission and airport manager Jerry Strunk came to an agreement on how to divide propane expenses during the past winter. The Airport Commission will cover 80 percent of the costs and the manager and Midwest Aviation will cover the other 20 percent. Brown said the decision was because the heating in the maintenance hangar had problems, causing too much propane to be used. The problems with the maintenance hangar’s heating have been fixed, Brown said.
The commission also decided on how to charge crop sprayers this summer. Brown said there is one hydrant with a meter that the crop sprayers use. The plan is to take a reading at the beginning and at the end of the summer to figure the usage, then divide the cost of the water between all of the users. Brown estimated the total cost per user to be approximately $50.
The airport’s insurance coverage with Cincinnati Insurance Company has been upgraded. Brown said values are up approximately 20 percent and the premiums are down approximately 15 percent.
From Strunk’s manager report, there are 35 aircraft at the airport, with 31 being permanent. Brown said buying a new mower was discussed at Monday’s meeting, along with making repairs and modifications to the Osh Kosh snow plow.
