Two Oskaloosa Middle School sixth grade students were honored Wednesday, May 28, as the Oskaloosa Optimist Club Students of the Trimester.
The students were named by the staff and faculty at the school. Brett Kindley and Jacey VanRoekel earned the awards, which were presented in front of friends, family and club members at Smokey Row.
The Students of the Trimester program honors students who have shown leadership, good character, citizenship and present themselves as positive role models for their fellow students. The club has honored students at the middle school since 1995.
Oskaloosa Middle School Principal and Student of the Trimester chairman made the presentation of plaques to the honorees. Faculty and staff make the nominations and then are reviewed. Gray said both students were examples of the quality students coming through the middle school.
Some of the teacher comments on VanRoekel included, “a good, caring and enthusiastic student. She is a nice girl to have in class. She has a great attitude and great leadership. She demonstrates the Six Pillars of Character everyday. She is a true role model for what we want Oskaloosa Middle School students to be like.”
On Kindley, “He carries himself with class at all times. He works extremely hard and is awesome academically. He is a great example for his peers and follows the Six Pillars of Character at all times.”
