The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors canvassed the June 3 Primary Election results from Mahaska County Monday and certified the votes with no changes made.

Of the 14,699 registered voters in the county, only 998 votes, plus two absentee votes not included in the supervisors’ report, were cast, Mahaska County Auditor Kay Swanson said. There were 563 Democrat and 435 Republican votes, she said.

In the contested Democratic 3rd District primary between incumbent Rep. Leonard Boswell and challenger Ed Fallon, Boswell received 448 votes to Fallon’s 100.

Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin ran uncontested and received 506 votes to 1 write-in. In the Democratic primary for Iowa Senate District 36, there was 1 write-in vote. In Iowa Senate District 38, Democratic Sen. Tom Rielly received 382 votes to 1 write-in. In the Iowa House District 72 primary, Democrat James Demichelis Jr. ran unopposed and received 81 votes. In the Iowa House District 75 primary, Rep. Eric Palmer also ran unopposed and received 404 votes to 1 write-in.

In the Democratic primary for county supervisor, there was a total of 15 write-in votes. For county auditor, there were six write-in votes cast for the Democratic primary. For sheriff, incumbent Democrat Paul DeGeest received 482 votes to 2 write-ins.

On the Republican side, for U.S. Senate, George Eichhorn received 184 votes and Christopher Reed garnered 135. Steve Rathje came in third with 78 votes. For the 3rd Congressional District, Kim Schmett ran unopposed and received 362 votes to 1 write-in. In the Iowa Senate District 36 primary, Republican state Sen. Paul McKinley ran unopposed and received 136 votes. In Iowa Senate District 38, Michael Hadley ran unopposed and received 236 votes to 1 write-in. For Iowa House District 72, state Rep. Richard Arnold also ran unopposed and received 140 votes. In Iowa House District 75, Danny Carroll ran unopposed and received 257 votes.

In the Republican primary for county supervisor, incumbent Henry W. Van Weelden received 365 votes to 8 write-ins. For county auditor, incumbent Kay Swanson received 388 votes to 5 write-ins. For county sheriff, Richard Adams received 330 votes to 4 write-ins.
