Published June 19, 2008 09:31 am - Oskaloosa Fourth of July fireworks and entertainment show 7 p.m. at fairgrounds The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — Fireworks will light up the Oskaloosa sky again this 4th of July.
The Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group Fireworks committee has an exciting evening of entertainment scheduled for Friday, July 4, at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa. Small Town Superheroes, a popular classic rock band from the Oskaloosa area, will be on hand to perform in concert during the festivities. Group members include lead singer Amy Howe, Tim DeJong, Terry DeJong, Bob Edwards and John Hoekstra. The band plays a wide variety of cover tunes from the ‘60s through today, classic rock with a sultry Southern vibe. MEGASAURUS will make its return to Oskaloosa this Fourth of July. Five years ago, MEGASAURUS made its first appearance in the area as a capacity crowd watched in total amazement while the 50,000 pound monster destroyed and burned two vehicles in front of the Southern Iowa Fair grandstand. This mechanical beast stands over three stories tall and has 1,000 feet of veins and arteries that feed his mechanical heart which pumps 50 gallons per minute. His blood pressure exceeds 2,500 pounds per square inch, giving him 5 tons of crushing force in each of his mammoth claws. He can lift 30,000 pounds to his gigantic mouth, and his massive jaws register 15,000 pounds of biting force. To ensure total destruction, MEGASAURUS is equipped with 200,000 BTUs of burning power. This is an event you won’t want to miss. Then at 10 p.m., there will be a spectacular community fireworks display at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa. The evening of excitement gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa with the grandstand gates opening at 6:30 p.m. Admission prices are $5 for adults with kids 16 and under admitted free. Sponsors of this year’s event are Musco Sports Lighting, The Oskaloosa Herald, KBOE, The Southern Iowa Fair, Doug’s 4 Wheelers, and the Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group. In case of rain, the fireworks rain date and time will be Saturday, July 5, at 10 p.m.
