Work to fix Oskaloosa roads is continuing after June’s heavy rains delayed this year’s sealcoating project.
Public Works Director David Neubert said approximately 25 blocks have been worked over by the zipper. The zipper takes four inches of the base material, grinds it up and puts it back on road, then another crew smooths out the road. Once between 30 and 40 blocks are completed with the zipper, crews will begin sealcoating where the zipper has been as the zipper continues around the city.
Neubert said the zipper crew is averaging three blocks a day and expects to complete 110 blocks this year. Although June slowed work due to excessive rain, crews have been able to work every day in July.
“As long as it isn’t raining that’s what we’ll continue to do,” Neubert said.
Crews are now working in the northeast part of the city on Carbanado Road. There is also a crew that is working to patch potholes, Neubert said.
