The Oskaloosa Municipal band continue its summer concerts Thursday evening at 8 p.m. in the city square bandstand, this week under the direction of Bruce Peiffer.
After a weather-shortened concert last week, the band hopes for a complete program of familiar tunes.
This week’s marches include “Semper Fidelis” and “Men of Ohio” from the composers John Philip Sousa and Henry Filmore, while the band features the trombone section in the always popular slider, “Lassus Trombone.” Concert selections will be “Bridgeview,” “Along the Santa Fe Trail” and “Amber Waves of Grain,” all three composed for the standard band repertoire.
Pops concert numbers will keep you humming as you leave the concert. From “Stouthearted Men” to “Ballad of Davy Crockett” to the Beatles’ “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da,” there is bound to be a tune you’ll remember. And let’s not forget the movies with the beautiful ballad from “An American Tail,” entitled “Somewhere Out There.”
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be at the Smokey Row Coffee House.
