Published August 29, 2008 11:31 am - Officials from three cities gather for informal talks By WES KAPPELMAN The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — The mayor and city manager shared lunch and regional issues with the mayors and managers of Pella and Knoxville on Thursday.
Mayor David Dixon talked with the Herald about the informal meeting on Thursday afternoon. “If we have a combined voice in this area it gives us greater credibility with the state,” Dixon said. One of the major issues discussed was a possible roadway to I-80. Pella is looking into the possibility of a connection from Pella or Highway 163. Dixon said the project could be important for Oskaloosa. “What is good for Pella can be good for Oskaloosa, and vice versa,” Dixon said. Knoxville’s VA Medical Center was also discussed. Dixon said he discussed the streetscape project and downtown buildings. One opportunity the region missed out on was the Earth Park. “Even though it would have been located on Lake Red Rock, it would have been a tremendous boon for the entire area,” Dixon said. “I think its a real shame Congress did what they did.” Dixon said the talks went well and at some point periodic visits over regional concerns might be arranged.
