Published September 10, 2008 01:52 pm - New Sharon City Council approves low-interest loan for restaurant By MICHAEL SCHAFFER The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — The New Sharon City Council, after much discussion during their Sept. 2 meeting, approved a $30,000 loan for Scott Farrington and Sharon Dawley, the owners of Scooter’s Pub & Grub.
The owners of the soon to open family-style restaurant requested the low-interest loan to help with costs associated with equipment purchases. Details for the six-year, 5 percent loan include no interest and no payments for the first year. The council also approved a class C liquor license for the restaurant. In other action, the council unanimously approved a $1,274 grant from the New Sharon Recreation and Economic Development Foundation to Define Styling, a hair styling salon at 119 E. Market St. The owner of the 5-year-old business, Deana DeJong, said she would use the money to do building improvements, including work on the siding, roof, doors and windows. The council, by unanimous votes, approved several building permits. Vance Alexander asked for a permit to erect a 24-foot by 54-foot shop behind his house. Dwight Randels requested a permit to pour a concrete slab beside his house to park his camper. And Josh Tremmel applied for a permit to erect a deck on his house. The council also discussed purchasing the remaining old school square lots back from Scott Simmons. Once the abstracts are up to date, the lots will be paid for and transferred to the NSREDF and then back to the city. Mayor Ed Davis indicated Kluesner Construction should begin work on city streets this week.
