By DUANE NOLLEN The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — Almost all the people who answered this past week’s Question of the Week: Did the debates help you choose a candidate? answered NO. Three — 9.68 percent — said YES while 28 — 90.32 percent answered NO. The Question of the Week poll is not scientific and only reflects the opinions of those Internet users who have chosen to participate. The Question of the Week is just another way the Herald’s readers can voice their opinions about issues that affect them. Halloween is just around the corner, and this week’s Question of the Week delves into the supernatural. The existence of ghosts is a popular topic and many movies and television shows delve into the subject — ranging from the cheesy movie “The Blair Witch Project” to the really cool Sci-Fi Channel shows “Ghost Hunters” and “Ghost Hunters International.” Do a Google search on “ghosts” and you will find myriad sites with alleged photos of ghosts and paranormal research groups. Paranormal research gets a bad rap because skeptics will ridicule mediums and psychics. However, Some research groups, such as The Atlantic Paranormal Society — TAPS — chronicled on “Ghost Hunters,” take a scientific approach to cases where they try to debunk reports of a haunting. They use a variety of equipment such as thermal imaging cameras, digital video cameras, electromagnetic field detectors and voice recorders to gather evidence. If they can replicate an experience, they disregard it. But, if they can’t, they have some evidence. “Ghost Hunters” is a fun show to watch, and some of the things they record are very interesting. People interested in the topic tend to be pretty dogmatic — both believers and skeptics. What do you think? This week’s Question of the Week: Do you believe in ghosts?
