Published August 22, 2008 11:33 am - Lake Red Rock programs for Aug. 22-24 The Oskaloosa Herald There’s always something happening at Lake Red Rock. Check out these upcoming programs. Creatures of the Night Hike Friday, Aug. 22 - 9 p.m. - Wallashuck Campground Hike along a woodland trail in search of the night shift. Follow the tracks left behind by the critters of the night and listen for owl calls and other lurking creatures. Don’t forget to bring your flashlight. Wild Cats of Iowa Saturday, Aug. 23 - 9 p.m. - North Overlook Amphitheater Here, Kitty Kitty. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Iowa State University continue to conduct a bobcat research project in south central Iowa exploring bobcat ecology within the state. Join DNR Forest Wildlife Research Biologist Todd Gosselink to learn about the behaviors of radio-tagged bobcats in the research project, and where they can be found in Iowa. He’ll also describe methods used for wildlife research for other species, displaying the various equipment used. Come enjoy photos of bobcats that have been part of the study in Iowa. Program Cancellation Notes: The “Outside-the-Dam Tour” and “Shoreline Rock Walk/Hike” initially planned for this weekend have been cancelled. Stop by the Red Rock Visitor Center (Memorial Day - Labor Day Weekend) The Red Rock Visitor Center is located on the south side of the dam and is open daily from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. After Labor Day weekend, the visitor center will be open weekends until the end of November, and the facility is also open year-round by appointment. Programs are free of charge. Outdoor activities will be cancelled if raining. For more information, contact the Corps of Engineers at (641) 828-7522.
