Published May 12, 2008 10:56 am - Oskaloosa Baccalaureate set for May 24 By JESSIE KITZMAN, OHS Class of 2008. The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — The end of the school year brings finals, graduation parties, and the long anticipated commencement ceremony.
Amidst these frenzied and exciting events, I’ve been fortunate to be part of yet another graduation tradition: the baccalaureate. Though when I attended the first planning meeting, I wasn’t entirely sure what a baccalaureate was, I soon was excited to help put on a youth led worship service before graduation. Graduation is an exciting time for everyone. For seniors, it marks both the beginning, and the end, of important parts of their lives. I am grateful for the opportunity to take time out of the business of graduation to both thank and praise God for all He has done for me for the first 18 years of my life, and to look forward to all He has in store for me for the future. I am also looking forward to being able to work with my class and present a worship service that we’ve been working on for months. Participants will be able to use their talents in a variety of ways to offer the talents God has given them. We have 17 seniors from 10 different churches involved in the planning and the program itself. The baccalaureate is fast approaching. We would like to invite everyone to share in our celebration. The baccalaureate will be May 24 at 11 a.m. in the high school gym.
