Playing two matches in as many days is not easy to do in almost any sport especially soccer.
Oskaloosa had a tough, physical match against Ottumwa on Monday and the Indians had to face No. 2 Norwalk in Little Hawkeye Conference action Tuesday at Vennard College.
The match was scoreless for much of the first half until Kyle Cumings broke the 0-0 tie with a goal in the final minute to help the Warriors take a 4-0 win from the Indians.
Despite the loss, Indians coach Mark Doll was pleased how his team performed following a tough previous match the night before.
It was a good game considering we played an extremely tough game last night, Doll said. It easily could have been 0-0 at half, but fatigue caught up with us in the second half. (Austin) Fender had to leave early to get back to the Jazz concert so Im proud of the guys. We gave a 100 percent effort with what we had tonight and thats all I could ask. They played heir hearts out.
The Indians had some opportunities to get on the scoreboard, particularly in the first half, but were unable to get ball past the Norwalk defense and goalkeeper.
The Warriors made it 2-0 on a penalty kick by Eric May after being interfered with by Oskaloosa goalkeeper Wiebe Goodyk.
That tally came in the 61st minute then the Warriors tacked on two more goals in the next six minutes to put the game out of reach.
Doll said the Warriors were quicker to the ball throughout the game and has played as a team for a long time.
They beat us to the ball almost all the time. This is a team thats got kids who play soccer year-round and is a very technical, talented team and that showed tonight. We hung with them pretty well, but in the end, the cream rose to the top and they were in control of the game.
Oskaloosa (1-6) hosts Knoxville in another LHC contest on Tuesday.
