Break up the Oskaloosa boys soccer team.

The Indians achieved a milestone on Monday night when they beat Pella for the first time in the short history of the team.

They ran their winning streak to a school record two games following a 3-1 decision over Knoxville Tuesday night in Little Hawkeye Conference action at Vennard College.

The Indians (3-6 overall, 3-5 LHC) got a pair of first-half goals by Andrew Reed and added a key insurance goal from Daniel Doll late in the half and held on for the win.

“It’s the first one in Osky history and I’ll take it, believe me,” Oskaloosa coach Mark Doll said. “We came out strong and that’s what I was hoping we would do in the first half. I didn’t really know what Knoxville had, they had beaten Boone 10-0 in their last game. I knew they could score. I felt if we could get good offensive pressure with Andrew Reed up front and Danny (Doll) and Caleb (Doll) playing up front there and attacking. I knew our defense has improved enough that we could handle them.”

Oskaloosa wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard first as Caleb Doll booted a perfect corner kick to Reed, who knocked it to the back of the goal 5 minutes into the match for a 1-0 lead.

Reed added his second tally of the night in the 24th minute on an unassisted goal and Daniel Doll spotted the Indians the 3-0 lead with 4 minutes left in the opening half.

After that, the Oskaloosa defense held off several opportunities by the Panthers to get back in the game.

Midway in the second half, Knoxville’s Ben Beary got the ball past Oskaloosa goalkeeper Wiebe Goodyk for the final goal of the match.

Mark Doll thought Reed, who also had a pair of goals against Centerville earlier this season, was almost unstoppable in the first 40 minutes of play.

“He was awesome. Early in the game, he was phenomenal,” Doll said. “He had excellent control and was very dangerous. We needed a big game from one of our strikers and he stepped up big for us.

“Our defense played really well, Lucas (Burns), Jon (Eveland), Tim McHawes, (Austin) Fender, (Chris) Farber and (Jordan) Shrago took care of their half of the field and had a solid game in goal (Goodyk).

“We had to win this game and sets up great for Grinnell and for Boone. If we continued to play well, I like our chances of finishing well in the conference and give us a good jump start into the substate.”

Oskaloosa hosts Grinnell on Friday.
