Daniel Doll’s hat trick leads Oskaloosa to yet another win
Indians blank Boone 5-0 for fourth straight win and second shutout in a row

After going the first few years of having a soccer program, Oskaloosa had a hard time scoring goals and winning matches.

In the past eight days, the Indians have had neither of those problems.

Oskaloosa scored four first-half goals against Boone and recorded its fourth straight win and second successive shutout with a 5-0 whitewash of the Toreadors Monday night at Vennard College.

It was a big night for senior Daniel Doll, who was recognized along with fellow seniors Austin Fender and Chris Farber prior of the match.

Doll recorded the first-ever hat trick in Oskaloosa boys soccer history as younger brother Caleb Doll picked up three assists.

Daniel Doll, who has scored five goals in the last two matches, said he was lucky to get the three goals in a span of one half of play.

“It was a lot of luck on my part, but I’ll take it,” he said. “It’s exciting as long as the team wins. He’s (Caleb Doll) really good. He’s got great passing skills. It’s going to help us a lot and he’s going to be good next year.”

The Doll brothers wasted little time in putting the Indians (5-6 overall, 5-3 Little Hawkeye Conference) on the board when they hooked up for a goal just two minutes into the match. Four minutes later, the duo combined for another tally and a 2-0 lead on a windy night.

Daniel Doll chipped in his third goal of the night on an assist by John Andersen at the 28-minute mark then Andrew Reed made it 4-0 on Caleb Doll’s third assist of the match in the 33rd-minute.

With the match out of reach, Oskaloosa coach Mark Doll moved goalkeeper Wiebe Goodyk to a striker position and nearly had a couple of goals, but the ball hit the crossbar and bounded away.

Lucas Burns put the finishing touches on the match with an unassisted goal with 5 minutes remaining.

Mark Doll said he would like to see the winning streak end at County Stadium in Des Moines in the state tournament.

After playing such a solid first half, he said he knew it would be tough to keep up that intensity the whole game.

“It was a little tough to keep the kind of edge we had going in the first half,” he said. “They (Toreadors) made some adjustments in the second half on their defense. I’m not displeased with that. When you have a four-goal lead, it’s a little hard to keep the pressure on and Boone was playing for some pride. I thought they played a good second half.

“We had some good chances. As a coach, you always kind of struggle do we want to keep the pressure on and keep the focus, but you also want to balance that with playing not losing sight of doing the fundamentals right. That was my big concern in the second half with the bigger goal is Thursday.”
