Oskaloosa High School senior Cody Major earned the team’s top award at the annual golf team banquet Tuesday. Major was named winner of the Ron Comstock Golf Award, which was presented by coach Rob Campbell.
Team members, families, friends and coach Campbell met at Edmundson Golf Course for the awards dinner.
“It was an exciting season,” said Campbell. “We had one of the biggest freshman classes ever. It was impressive that we had four freshmen and two seniors playing for us at conference.”
A dozen freshmen helped bolster the team with its largest numbers in several years. Freshman Mitch Tucker earned All-Little Hawkeye Conference honors when the team played at Bos Landen in Pella a week ago. Ten players earned letters including six freshmen.
The team voted Major as the senior award winner of the prestigious Comstock award. Past winners of the award, named for a former law enforcement officer and avid golfer, have been Grant Blake (2006), Bobby Chamra (2007) and Major. Major is a four-year letterwinner. Senior Jeff Keep earned his second letter. Aaron Laird, who played as a freshman, returned for his senior season as well.
