Ashley Sharp scored twice in the first half and Brisgette Disles added another goal late in the half to give Centerville a 3-0 win over Oskaloosa Tuesday night.
The Indians outshot the Redettes 34-8, but could not get the ball past the Centerville goalkeeper.
“The girls had a tough first half,” Oskaloosa coach Amanda Reynolds said. “We started a little slow, still tired from Monday. At halftime, I told them that the first half was over, and this was a whole new game. I switched some folks around, and they came out fighting. We outshot Centerville by 24 or 25 goals to less than 10. I’m incredibly pleased with the way the girls dominated the second half. They kept the pressure up and just kept pounding away at the goal.
“Emilia Hodges and Shayna Walters had some excellent runs and really beautiful crosses in from the wings, and Maya Markwald, Jessi Kitzman and Lyric Morris had really solid games in the middle. Arie Walker pressured the Redette defense consistently and Taylor Parks had a fantastic game. She played in the middle and not only hustled on defense, but also took some really nice shots and kept the ball on the Centerville half of the field. Defense was consistent, especially in the second half, cutting off the other team and getting the ball back out to the wings to make runs up the sidelines. They played very well together and worked quite hard to ensure that Kacie never even saw the ball.
“The girls had an amazing second half, they talked, made some incredible runs, and kept the Centerville defense nervous. I’m very pleased with their efforts and proud of the way they stepped up in the second half to take control of the game.”
Oskaloosa concludes the regular season Thursday with a home match against Pella Christian.
