OSKALOOSA

It’s the 14th year for the prestigious MUSCO Lighting Stock Car Shootout presented by MUSCO Lighting and R&L Promotions at the Southern Iowa Speedway Wednesday night with the winner walking away with a nice $2,000 payday.

The feature would be a thriller with two- and three-wide racing and Ryan Felck of Decorah and Cresco driver Shay Curtin going toe-to-toe before the No. 40 car of Curtin would take the lead. He looked to be on his way to victory lane before the caution flag flew on lap 21.

This would close the field up with Curtin leading the field on the restart, but would spin the tires and slip back to fourth. The caution would fly for a car in turn one and two, setting up another restart.

This time, Curtin would lead the field to turn one with Matt Greiner of Washington and Tory Reicks of Waucoma battling for the lead. Greiner made a pass off turn four to take the lead and would pick up his biggest win of his career by crossing the line and taking home the $2,000 payday and a very special trophy to add to the trophy case to remember an awesome night of racing.

The second spot went to Curtin, who drove a great race and finished in the bridesmaid’s spot. The battle for the third spot saw Brian Mitrisin and Reicks battle with Mitrisin taking third and Reicks taking the fourth spot.

The Carter International USRA B-Modifieds battle was all Tyler Groenendyk of Oskaloosa as he led all 18 laps for his second win of the season, earning him a whopping $1,000 for his efforts. The second place car of Cory brown would end his night with a flat right rear tire, giving Brett Moffitt the runner-up spot with Mike Wanders of Oskaloosa taking third and Drew Lawson, also from Oskaloosa, racing his way from the 17th starting spot to take fourth.

In the MUSCO Lighting USRA A-modifieds, Kelly Shryock of Fertile would take the lead on the first lap and pace the field before the New Sharon drivers would close the gap and put pressure on Shryock. Zack VanderBeek nad Brad Pinkerton would bring the crowd to its feet with Pinkerton making the pass on lap 13 before the caution would fly causing Pinkerton to surrender the lead and restart third. Shryock would lead until lap 16 when VanderBeek would make the pass on the bottom of turn four and take the $1,000 payday with Shryock in second and Pinkerton in third and Colt Mather in fourth and first-time visitor Adam Bell of Kalona taking the fifth spot.

In the USRA hobby stocks, Kris Walker of Osky and Bobby Greene of Eddyville would swap the lead several time before the 52 of Nathan Wood would make the pass but Chris Hoveden of Cresco would stay on the rear bumper with Wood holding off Hovden for the $700 win with hovden in second followed by Jason McDaniel of Eldon and Shannon Anderson of Atlantic taking the fourth spot after starting deep in the field.

Next week will feature Eric Palmer Night with the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing featuring MUSCO Lighting Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks.
