OSKALOOSA

The Oskaloosa 14- and 15-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team advanced to this weekend’s state tournament after winning the district title in Albia.

Oskaloosa scored 12 runs in the final four innings to beat Rathbun 16-8 in the tournament’s first game, played July 11.

Taylor Cox had four singles and scored runs while Paul Anderson knocked in eight runs on a single, two triples and scored twice. Austin Westercamp, who struck out six in the win, had three RBI, scored two runs and had a double, single and two triples. Cody Thomas had two singles, double and drove in a run while Brett Kingery had one run batted in. Cody Bates singled three times and scored a run, Jake Kanselaar had a single, Andy Upah and Cole Pettyjohn both scored a run, Skyler Kane singled twice and scored three runs and Lane Wells had a single and scored a run.

A nine-run third inning gave Oskaloosa an 11-5 triumph over Lucas County in the second game which was played July 12.

Kane led Oskaloosa with a pair of singles, two RBI and scored a run as Trevor Wood had two doubles, a single, scored once and drove in two runs. Cox had two singles and scored two runs, Anderson had one single, one RBI and one run scored and Westercamp singled twice and scored a run. Kingery drove in a pair of runs and had a triple. Bates scored a run while Thomas and Pettyjohn both had a single and scored a run.

Oskaloosa and Rathbun played a pair of games on Sunday to determined which team would advance to the state tournament.

Rathbun won the first game 9-6.

Westercamp paced Oskaloosa with three singles and scored a run while Upah also had three singles, scored a run and knocked in two runs. Kingery, Kane and Tanner Scott all singled and scored a run while Wood singled and had one RBI. Cox had a single, Thomas scored a run as Kingery struck out six and Upah recorded three strikeouts.

The teams met again in the final game of the tournament with Oskaloosa coming away with the 5-4 win and th district title.

Westercamp fanned five and had a single, double and two RBI to lead Oskaloosa. Cox and Kingery also had a single, double and a run scored while Wood had a pair of singles and scored a run. Bates and Anderson each scored a run, and Kane drove in a run.

Oskaloosa plays in the state tournament in Centerville, beginning on Saturday.
