The 2008 High School class came to a close on Friday night. Current point leader Kyle Kramer from Pella left the door open as he went out in the first round of elimination. But the other racers weren’t able to take advantage of it. Ethan Brinegar faced off against Mike Mahaffey. Brinegar having the slower dial-in took off first down the track with Mahaffey giving chase. Brinegar had the better reaction time and Mahaffey slowed down, letting Brinegar claim the win. Over 120 kids showed up for the MX2 NHRA Division 5 Junior Dragster Hawkeye Challenge at Eddyville for two days of racing. Saturday started off with three classes of index racing, a all-run bracket class, Jr. Comp and a Outlaw 330 class. In the 7.90 class Austin Surhe went against Rachel Krug. Krug ran closer to index, but a slower reaction time was enough for Surhe to claim the win. Austin Sharpe went against Tyler Banks in the 8.90 class. Both drivers broke out with Sharpe breaking out the least and getting the win. Samantha Little went against Jason Azbill Jr. in the 12.90 index class. Azbill Jr., had the better reaction time, but went too fast breaking out by just .0075 giving the win to Little. Jr. Comp saw Lauren Thomas going against Baili Kleinberg. Both drivers broke out but the race was already over at the starting line as Kleinberg couldn’t wait and tripped the red-light and Thomas claimed the win. In the All-Run bracket class Dayne Pluta went against Laura Keuter. Keuter had a better reaction time but was off her dial-in just enough that Pluta got the win. In the Outlaw 330 class which is a head up class running to the 330 mark Robbie Massey claimed the win over Braedan Holzhauer. No other info was provided. The quick 32 was cancelled due to rain that came in. Sunday classes was broken up by age groups. Little went against Olivia Humphrey in the 8-to-9-year-old class. Humphrey ran right on the dial-in but a Steller .001 reaction time by Little give her the win. Rileigh Ricken went against Zach Mortenson in the 10-to-11-year-old class. Ricken covered both ends of the track by running right on the dial-in and having the better reaction time over Mortenson and got the win.
