EDDYVILLE

The Third Annual World Fuel Altered Nationals had perfect weather for both days of racing at Eddyville Raceway Park.

Friday saw the first round of qualifying for the Altereds although no drivers ran in the 3-second range the stage was set as low 4-second runs were produced.

Saturday, besides the Altereds running a full slate of other sportsman classes was held.

In the Eddyville Stick Shifter class, it was Jerry McMains from Madrid faced off against Bill McCuen from Des Moines.

McMains was lucky to even be in the finals as in the first round as McMains did his burnout a plug on the engine block used to drain water broke and water leaked out onto the track and, as he left the starting line, the rear tire hit the water causing the car to make a hard sharp right turn. McMains was able to get the car under control and avoid hitting anything and staying in his lane. His opponent broke out and since McMains was able to stay in his lane get the win and advance to the next round.

McMains ran closer to his dial-in and made use of a better reaction time to claim the win over McCuen.

Jr. Dragster saw Taylor Grimm from Des Moines going against Chelsea Bacon from Fort Dodge. Grimm had the better light while Bacon had the better reaction time at the finish line just .011 was the difference as Grimm claimed the win.

Bill Gissible from Carlisle faced off against Tim VanAntwerp in the No Box Class. Gissible has a spectacular reaction time a .001 and ran .014 off his dial-in making for a .015 package to claim the win.

Gary Shearer from Eddyville made the finals in the Box Class going against Brent Freeborn from Nevada. Freeborn had the better light but went too fast breaking out giving the win to Shearer.

In the Run-Off between the two classes Gissible once again had a great reaction time a .004 against Shearer .013. Gissible also ran closer to his dial-in and claimed the win and the big payout.

James Knudson from Indianola claimed the win against Matt Allen from Robins in the Nostalgia No. 1 class. Due to printer problems, no other information was provided.

Jeff Starks from Newton faced off against Ryan Baarda in the Nostalgia No. 2 class. Both drivers broke-out with Baarda being closer but a .002 red-light gave the win to Starks.

In the Run-Off of the Nostalgia cars Starks faced off against Knudson. Starks took off first and Knudson couldn’t wait and left the line to soon tripping the red-light by just .032 and Starks claimed the win.

Pure Street/Sportsman Combo saw Matt Trueblood from Agency going against Dean Kanselaar from Oskaloosa. Trueblood ran off his dial-in but Kanselaar had a slower reaction time and broke out giving the win to Trueblood.

In the Fuel Altered classes the fastest eight cars faced off against each other then the next eight was in the B class.
