Published August 28, 2008 10:04 am - Season champions were crowned at the Southern Iowa Speedway Wednesday night. Checkers fly on season champions at SIS By TONY PARIS The Oskaloosa Herald OSKALOOSA — The final feature of the regular season flew Wednesday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway with the Casey’s General Stores USRA Weekly racing series and four track champions were crowned.
In the USRA hobby stock feature, Jason McDaniel took the win and the track title. McDaniel had to battle Danny Danny Thrasher for the win. In the Carter International and Karl Chevrolet USRA B-Modifieds, Bill Gibson and Brian Edel came into the night only one point separating the two. Edel would take the win and track championship, but had to battle the young racer Carter VanDenberg, who lead all but the final four laps in his second-ever time in the modified. His go-kart experience really has helped the young racer transition into a full-bodied race car. The Karl Chevrolet USRA Stock Car division saw Matt Greiner of Washington take his second track championship over Oskaloosa driver AJ Johnson, but Nathan Wood of Keswick, who finished fourth in the points took the feature checkers over Shane Weller of Agency. In the MUSCO Lighting USRA A-Modified division, Ron VerBeek would take the checkers, but Colt Mather of Webster, in his rookie season, would take the Championship with VerBeek finishing second in the point chase. The Southern Iowa Speedway will be idle till Oct. 10-11 when the 22nd Annual MUSCO Lighting Fall Challenge is held.
