You couldn’t ask for better racing for the Co-Line/Goalsetter Labor Day weekend at Eddyville Raceway Park.
Racing started off Saturday with the Sportsman classes.
In the Sportsman class, two local racers faced off in the finals, Mike Wymore and Dean Kanselaar both from Oskaloosa. Wymore had to wait on Kanselaar and at the finish line Wymore broke out, but by then, the race was already over as Kanselaar left the line too soon, red-lighting, and handing the win to Wymore.
In the Pro class, Tim Sparks from University Park went against Bill Gissible from Carlisle, who was looking for his second win of the season. On the starting line Sparks had the better reaction time and at the finish line Gissible trying to catch Sparks went too fast and broke out by just .0024 and Sparks claimed the win.
In the Jr. Dragster Consi class Chase VanSant from Pella claimed the win over Ashley Davis from Dunkerton. VanSant made use of a much better reaction time and running closer to his dial-in to help with the win.
Halie Mains from Des Moines faced off against Chris Labs from Center Point. Main ran right on her dial-in, but wasn’t needed as Labs tripped the red light and handed the win to Main.
Main also claimed the win over VanSant in the All-star Run-off. VanSant had the better reaction time and Main ran right on her dial-in but VanSant went too fast, breaking out.
Danny DeMoss from Knoxville claimed the win in the Pro Bike class over Paul Vaughn from Lone Tree. Vaughn ran right on his dial-in, but a slow reaction time was enough for DeMoss to claim the win.
Pure Street saw Jesse Bronson from Unionville going against Wayne Carder from Agency. At the finish line, both drivers broke out but Bronson broke out the least and claimed the win.
Super Pro had Danny Fox from Plainfield going against Jerry Schartner from Des Moines. Schartner ran closer to his dial-in, but it didn’t help as the race was already over as he tripped the red light, giving the win to Fox.
Artie Craver from Montezuma faced off against Bruce Main from Des Moines in the Top Sportsman class. Craver ran right on his dial-in while Main went too fast and broke out giving the win to Craver.
Craver faced off against John Day from Waterloo, who had won the Top Dragster class in the run-off between the two classes. Craver once again ran right on his dial-in, but it was for nothing as he had tripped the red light by just -.002 and giving the win to Day.
At 6 p.m., the pros come out to put on a show for the fans. On hand was Pro Mods, Nostalgia Pro Stocks and the main event, Alcohol Funny cars.
Dale Brand from Sully driving the Co-line/Goalsetter Alcohol Funny Car and also sponsoring the event faced off against Lance VanHauen from Reinbeck.
VanHauen left the line first, but at the finish line Brand went around him and claimed the win running a 4.026 at 189.79 mph against VanHauen 4.180 at 168.79 mph. At the end of the night for their second pass, Brand left the line first and led the whole way running 3.939 at 172.81 mph to a close 4.0173 at 183.08 by VanHauen.
