MCSC faced off against Albia, Washington



OSKALOOSA

On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Mahaska County Soccer Club hosted Albia and Washington at the Lacey Recreation Complex.

The U10 boys team, coached by Bryan Kime and Zack Cox, won its first game against Albia by a score of 12–5. Jacob Kime scored five goals, KJ McCrea had four goals, Jacob Huedepohl had two goals, and Paul Ginaven hit a shot from midfield that ricocheted off of a defender’s head. Goalkeeper Noah Baarda had two saves.

The second game of the day was another strong showing by the group as they dropped Washington by a score of 13–2. Jacob Kime had seven goals, KJ McCrea had five goals, Jacob Huedepohl had one goal and three assists, Isaac Parks had one assist. Goalie Noah Baarda had five saves while Paul Ginaven had one.

The U10 girls team, coached by Heather Gross, beat Albia in their first game 6-3. Brittany DeMoney had four goals, Kinsey Cook and Leah VanMaanen each had one goal and one assist, Gillian Gross had one assist, goalie Siena DeJong had six saves, and Katie Richmond once again contributed solid defense.

The second game was a 16-1 win against Washington. Katie Richmond had six goals, Sienna DeJong had four goals and two assists, Kinsey Cook had four goals, Leah VanMaanen and Claire Reese both had a goal, and keeper Gillian Gross had five saves.

Mike Mier’s U10 boys beat Albia 7–3. Keeper Conner Swim had five saves, while Brady Davis had five goals, Jakob Anderson had two goals, and Jordan Mier had one assist.

The second game was a 13–0 shutout of Washington. Osky’s great defense kept the ball away from the keepers Brady Davis and Mason Van Engelenhoven the entire game. Jordan Mier had four goals and one assist, Jacob Anderson had three goals, Brady Davis has two goals and one assist, Conner Swim had two goals and two assists, Dalton Harvey and Mason VanEngelenhoven had one and goal one assist apiece, and Carter Huyser and John Hammes eached had one assist.

The U12 boys team, coached by Casey Berg and Scott DeJong, beat Albia Red in its first game 5–3. Brady DeJong, Darin Yang and Owen Grubb had one goal each, and Bradly Taylor had two goals.

Game two against Washington was also a win with the final score of 8–4. Brady DeJong and Bradly Taylor each notched two goals, while Rogan Skutca, Ethan Farner, Colton Berg and Owen Grubb had one goal apiece.

U12 Boys, coached by Jameson Kautzman, lost its first game to Albia Blue by a score of 5-3. Logan Lunsford had two goals and Sam Adams had one goal. Goalie Hunter Kelderman had numerous saves for the game and Logan Gross, Zac Randau and Garrett Van Maanen.

The second game with Albia Red was a 3-1 loss with Hunter Kelderman scoring the only goal.

Chris Cook’s U16 coed team played Albia and lost 10-2. Tristan Cook and Seth Thompson had one goal each. Goal keeper Brianna Martin had three saves and keeper Brendan Cottington had two saves on the day.

The U19 coed team, coached by Monthy Rassasombath, played Washington in its first game to a 5-5 tie. John Anderson had three goals and one assist. Isaiah Thompson scored a goal off of a penalty kick, and Guilherme Uchoa had one goal. Taylor Scheckler had two assists, and Goalie Ethan VandeWall had six saves.

Game two of the day was a 3-0 win against Albia. John Anderson scored all three goals, one off of an assist by Seth Thompson. Keeper Ethan VandeWall had 12 saves.

On Sunday, Sept. 28, the U8 team coached by Zac Cox, Bryan Kime and Wilhelm Hartl, traveled to Newton and won 12-0. Aaron Blom and Nathan DeBruin both scored four goals while Liam Skutca and Joshua Hartl had two goals each. Assists were provided by Nathan DeBruin, Joshua Hartl and Kadin Gerard.
