MCSC teams take on Ottumwa



OTTUMWA

On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Mahaska County Soccer Club traveled to Ottumwa.

The U10 boys team, coached by Bryan Kime and Zack Cox, won its game against Ottumwa by a score of 10–4. Jacob Kime scored two goals, KJ McCrea had five goals, Jacob Huedepohl had three goals and Isaac Parks contributed with a close shot on goal. Goalkeeper Noah Baarda had five saves. Paul Ginaven and Alex Fuller contributed stifling defense.

The U10 girls team, coached by Heather Gross, lost to Ottumwa B in its first game 5-3. Kinsey Cook, Leah VanMaanen and Summer Smith had the goals for Oskaloosa. Ace defender Kaity Richmond had one assist, and Britney DeMoney had one shot. Keeper Gillian Gross had four saves.

The second game was a 7–1 win against Ottumwa’s U10 C team. Siena DeJong had three goals, Kinsey Cook had one goal and Kaity Richmond had three goals. Leah VanMaanen had two saves in goal.

Mike Mier’s U10 Boys played Ottumwa B with a final score of Osky 13, Ottumwa B 1. Conner Swim had four goals and two assists, Brady Davis had three goals and two assists, Mason VanEngelenhoven had one goal, Jakob Anderson had three goals, Dalton Harvey had two goals and Jordan Mier had one assist.

The second game played Ottumwa A, with a final score of Osky 8 and Ottumwa A 0. Brady Davis scored five goals, Conner Swim had one goal, Jakob Anderson had two goals and one assist and Jordan Mier had two assists.

U10 girls team, coached by Reg Randau and Rod McGlothlen, won against Ottumwa’s U10 C with a score of 9 – 0. Goalie Aubrey Miller had four saves, while goalie Sydney McGlothlen had nine saves. Heavy defensive action was provided by Katrina Elliot, Kamryn Beers, Brynn Shaull, Claire Fiechtner, Lexi Randau and Aubrey Miller. Offensive play led to scores by Lexi Randau two goals and two assists, Sydney McGlothlen two goals, Katrina Elliot one goal, Claire Fiechtner one goal and one assist, Aubrey Miller two goals, and Brynn Shaull one goal.

The U12 boys team coached, by Casey Berg and Scott DeJong, played two Ottumwa teams. In their first game Osky recorded an 11-0 win. Bradly Taylor and Ethan Farner each had three goals. Jacob Dorothy had two goals and Owen Grubb, Brady DeJong and Colton Berg had one each. Goalkeepers Brady DeJong and Zach Kirby had three saves each. Osky lost their second game 8-5 with Darin Yang, Zach Kirby and Jacob Dorothy scoring one goal each and Rogan Skutca scoring twice. Keeper Brady DeJong had two saves and Colton Berg had one save.

U12 Boys, coached by Jameson Kautzman and Steve Heaton, tied their game with Ottumwa with a final score of 3–3. Logan Gross had three shots and one goal, Shawn Fowler and Zac Randau each had two shots and one assist, Lake Heaton had three shots and Garrett VanMaanen had one goal. Logan Lunsford took three shots, Jeremy Hartl recorded one shot and one goal while Tiki Anderson and Ben Boston each had two shots on goal. Goalie Hunter Kelderman had 19 saves against Ottumwa’s 31 shots on goal.

The Mahaska County Soccer Club U14 co-ed team, coached by Steve De Jong, played Ottumwa’s U14 team, with MCSC winning by a score of 4-0. The players who scored were Sarandyn Curtis, Scott Yang and Troy Else who placed two balls into the net. The players who scored benefited from the excellent passing of Josh McDaniel, Christian Bambrook, CC Stouwie and Graeme Kuba. The defense of Brett Ewing, Colton Mitterer, Brandon Keesling, Amanda Keesling and Kelsey Fuller managed to hold the Ottumwa team to only five shots on goal and Skylar De Jong was able to keep those five shots from entering the goal.

Wilhelm Hartl’s U14 co-ed team beat Ottumwa 6-1. Christian Bambrook led the Osky team with four goals and two assists with Jakob Hartl contributing two goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Matt Strong had one save, but had to leave the game due to an injury. Josh McDanel then contributed four saves in the goal. Osky showed great passing skills and good teamwork by both offense and defense.

Chris Cook’s U16 co-ed team played two games while in Ottumwa. The first game against the Ottumwa U19 Girls ended with a final score of Osky 7 and Ottumwa 1. Maxwell Holle had two goals and one assist, Dylan DeJong had two goals, Tristan Cook, Anthea Anderson and Paige Walter each had one goal. Keeper Brendan Cottington had three saves in the goal. The second game against the Ottumwa U16 coed team resulted in a 7–2 loss with Cook and DeJong scoring one goal each and keeper Cottington contributing four saves.

The U19 coed team, coached by Monthy Rassasombath, played Ottumwa to a 3-1 loss. Maxwell Holle scored the only Osky goal while Goalkeeper Ethan VandeWall had 19 saves.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, the U8 traveling team, coached by Zac Cox, Bryan Kime and Wilhelm Hartl, played in Newton with a final score of 13-0 against one of the two Newton teams. Great passing and teamwork resulted in goals and assists by all players: Joshua Hartl had 5 goals, Aaron Blom and Liam Skutca contributed three goals each, and Kadin Gerard added two goals for the win.
